Modular Drive Technology – from DC Motors to Intelligent Control Systems

DRIVE SYSTEMS

Complete drive systems – more than just components

At SPAT®, you don’t just get motors, gearboxes or controllers “off the shelf”, but customised drive systems engineered precisely for your application. The basis is our SPAT MDS Platform (Modular Drive System) – a modular toolkit of standardised, yet flexibly combinable components.

Depending on the task, a drive system can consist of the following building blocks:

  • SEC – brushless EC motors

  • SDC – brushed DC motors

  • SPG – planetary gearboxes

  • SWG – worm gearboxes

  • SMC – motor controllers

  • SDE – digital encoders for position and speed feedback

  • SLA – linear actuators

Which components are actually used depends on your application: in many projects we supply complete mechatronic drive units including controller and encoder, in others we provide motor-gearbox assemblies that are integrated into existing customer electronics.

We configure and adapt these building blocks on a project-specific basis until a ready-to-install, fully tested drive system emerges.

Below you will find an overview of the components of the SPAT MDS Platform that we use to build your individual drive system.

Components of the SPAT MDS Platform

SEC – EC motors

SEC – brushless DC motors for compact drive systems. Maintenance-free EC motors with high efficiency and power density, ideal for dynamic applications and continuous operation.

SDC – DC motors

SDC – DC motors for directly driven applications. Proven DC technology, ideal where existing power stages are used or simple speed control is required.

SMC – motor controllers

SMC – motor controllers for DC and EC drives. Precise control of speed, torque and position with fieldbus-capable interfaces for integration into modern automation systems.

SDE – digital encoders

SDE – digital encoders for accurate position and speed feedback. Optimally matched to SPAT motors and controllers and available with various resolutions and interfaces.

SPG – planetary gearboxes

SPG – planetary gearboxes for high torque in a compact form factor. Can be combined with SEC and SDC motors for dynamic, space-saving drive systems.

SWG – worm gearboxes

SWG – worm gearboxes for right-angle drives. High reduction ratios and smooth running where angle deflection and compact design are required.

SLA – linear actuators

SLA – linear actuators based on the SPAT MDS Platform. Motor, gearbox and spindle mechanics combined into a compact actuator for powerful, precise linear motion.
