Food Industry
Precise, hygienic, and robust – drive technology by SPAT®
Clean processes require smart drive solutions
The food industry has some of the most demanding requirements: drive systems must not only be reliable and durable but must also comply with strict hygiene regulations. Added to this are short cycle times, long operating hours in continuous use, and frequent cleaning cycles – often involving high pressure or aggressive cleaning agents. These factors call for specially designed, resilient, yet precisely controllable drive solutions.
Hygienic and reliable for sensitive processes
SPAT® provides customised drive systems based on our SPAT MDS Platform, perfectly tailored for use in hygiene-sensitive environments. Our compact, sealed drives are designed with smooth, easy-to-clean surfaces and can be supplied with stainless-steel housings on request. The decentralised drive units reduce cabling effort and save control cabinet space – ideal for modular machine concepts in food processing.
SPAT® drives – proven performance in cleaning, portioning, and packaging
Our drive systems are already in successful operation across a wide range of food industry applications. These include drives for washing modules in slaughtering lines, positioning systems for cutting or portioning equipment, and film feed drives in packaging units. High connectivity via fieldbus and Ethernet ensures seamless integration into existing control architectures – whether in new installations or retrofit projects.

FAQ
Drive Technology in the Food Industry
Answers to frequently asked questions about precise and high-performance drive solutions for the food sector.
Our drives are available with protection ratings up to IP65 as standard and, on request, up to IP67 – ideal for environments with high humidity or frequent wash-down cleaning.
For particularly demanding hygiene applications, we also offer special versions up to IP69K. These drives are hermetically welded, have no visible screw connections and feature smooth, easy-to-clean surfaces.
Yes. Thanks to their compact design and bus-capable interfaces, our drive systems can be integrated into existing machine architectures without difficulty – including in retrofit projects.
Absolutely. We provide customised solutions for mechanical interfaces, housing materials, control electronics and much more – tailored to your specific requirements in food processing.
Our drives can be designed for use with high-pressure cleaning and aggressive cleaning agents. This includes smooth housing surfaces, adapted sealing concepts and corrosion-resistant materials. For particularly demanding hygiene zones, special versions up to IP69K are available.
Yes. For applications with high demands on hygiene and corrosion resistance, we offer drives with stainless-steel housings and matching stainless-steel mounting components. Which parts are made from stainless steel or provided with special coatings is defined together with you based on your hygiene requirements and the cleaning agents used.
On request, we use food-grade lubricants (e.g. H1-approved types) as well as suitable sealing and plastic materials. The selection is made on a project-specific basis in line with your hygiene and approval requirements. We are happy to support you in defining the appropriate configuration for your machine concepts.
Yes. Our drives can be engineered for use in chilled and deep-freeze environments. In doing so we take into account temperature ranges, condensation/icing and the cleaning methods used. Based on this, we select suitable bearings, seals and materials and adapt the design to your specific ambient conditions.
We provide all relevant technical documentation for the drive technology, such as data sheets, wiring diagrams and information on the materials and protection ratings used. On request, we can also supply project-specific information that you can include in your machine documentation in accordance with the Machinery Regulation and your CE conformity assessment.
