Careers at SPAT®
Apprenticeship, dual study program, internship or direct entry
Careers at SPAT® – Drive Technology, Electronics & Embedded Systems
At SPAT® we develop and manufacture compact, intelligent drive systems for mechanical and plant engineering – from power electronics and embedded software through to complete drive solutions.
Whether you are looking for an apprenticeship, a dual study programme, an internship or your first full-time position: with us you work close to the technology, take on responsibility early and see how your work ends up directly in series products and customer projects – in development, manufacturing, design or administration.
Ideally, we get to know each other during a school internship, a holiday job or a practical phase. This gives both sides the chance to see at an early stage whether things fit – professionally and personally – before we take the next step together towards an apprenticeship or a dual study programme.
Apprenticeship as Electronics Technician for Devices and Systems (m/f/d)
During your apprenticeship as an Electronics Technician for Devices and Systems you learn from the ground up how electronic assemblies and complete devices are created from circuit diagrams, PCB layouts and bills of materials. You will work with components, circuits, test and measuring equipment and learn step by step how to not only assemble electronics, but also to understand, test and maintain them.
The apprenticeship is organised in the dual system: at vocational school you acquire the theoretical foundation in electronics, digital technology, measurement technology and basic computer science. In our company you apply this knowledge directly – for example in the production and commissioning of motor controllers, sensor and power electronics or in testing and service tasks around our drive systems.
At SPAT® you work in a manageable team and quickly see how your work flows directly into series products and customer projects.
Over the usual three-and-a-half years of training you get to know various areas – from development and manufacturing to test field and quality assurance – and gain a realistic picture of how a medium-sized technology company works.
This apprenticeship is a good choice if you enjoy practical work, are interested in electronics and technology and like to get to the bottom of things – from the first measurement to the finished drive system.
Dual Study Programme – in Cooperation with the Duale Hochschule Sachsen (DHSN)
A dual study programme combines a full university degree with firmly scheduled practical phases in the company. In cooperation with the Duale Hochschule Sachsen (DHSN), SPAT® offers you the opportunity to complete a technical degree while working on real projects from day one – alternating regularly between theory at the university and practice in our company.
During the theory phases you acquire the necessary technical foundations in fields such as electrical engineering, computer science, mechatronics or automation technology. In the practical phases at SPAT® you experience how this knowledge is applied in the development and use of drive systems. You work directly with colleagues from development, manufacturing and testing, see concrete results of your work and accompany projects over longer periods of time.
Another advantage of the dual study programme: you receive a monthly salary from the very beginning and are employed by us throughout your studies. This allows you to focus on your degree and practical work without having to organise an additional side job. At the same time, you get to know the processes of a medium-sized technology company early on and build your professional network while you are still studying.
Whether you are joining directly from school or already have some practical experience – the dual study programme is a good option if you enjoy theory but also want your knowledge to result in tangible technical solutions.
Internships & Final Theses – from Embedded Systems to Industry 4.0
As a university student you can complete practical semesters, working student positions and final theses (Bachelor/Master) at SPAT® directly in the environment of our drive systems. Depending on your field of study and interests, possible focus areas include:
hardware-related microcontroller programming on ARM platforms
software development for Windows-based tools for commissioning, parameterisation and testing of our drives
app development for Android
creation of drive libraries for PLC and IPC controllers
development of slave components for Ethernet-based fieldbus systems
If you prefer working on the hardware side, you can dive into embedded hardware development, sensor technology, MEMS and power electronics and see how circuit concepts become real assemblies. Topics related to Industry 4.0 – such as condition monitoring and predictive maintenance – offer the opportunity to combine drive technology with data analysis and modern monitoring concepts.
If you already have your own topic idea, we will be happy to check together whether it fits our current projects and technologies.
Working at SPAT® – Technology, Responsibility and Short Decision Paths
At SPAT® you do not work in an anonymous large corporation, but in an environment where every contribution is visible. We develop and manufacture drive systems that are used in machines all over the world – from electronics and embedded software through to commissioning. If you work with us, you see how ideas become real products and can recognise your own signature in the result.
Instead of rigid hierarchies, we offer direct contacts, short decision paths and plenty of room to shape things. Good ideas do not disappear into committees – they can be tried out quickly and integrated into projects. The working environment is deliberately straightforward and technically driven – with space for engineering spirit, curiosity and a healthy dose of technical playfulness.
At the same time, we offer long-term perspectives in a future-oriented niche, opportunities for professional development and flexible working time and workplace models. Benefits such as a company pension scheme, training opportunities and profit sharing complete the package. And yes: we prefer exciting projects and real responsibility over the hundredth fruit basket.

Your Benefits with SPAT® as an Employer
At SPAT® you work on real products: drive systems, electronics, embedded software and test equipment that are used directly in our customers’ machines – varied and hands-on instead of monotonous routine.
Decisions are made quickly and directly. You work closely with development, production and test field and talk to the people who actually make decisions – without long chains and corporate structures.
Your contribution is visible. Your own ideas and improvement suggestions are explicitly welcome – and do not end up in a drawer but can flow directly into projects.
Where the job allows it, we offer flexible working hours, flexitime and home-office options. This makes it easier to combine your work with your personal life.
Whether apprenticeship, dual study or direct entry: it is important to us that you develop both professionally and personally – through demanding tasks in your day-to-day work and targeted training opportunities.
As a specialist in a future-oriented niche we offer stable perspectives. In addition to your salary you benefit from extras such as a company pension scheme, profit sharing and support for further training.
Who Is SPAT® an Attractive Employer For?
SPAT® is a good fit if you enjoy working close to the technology and want to see how ideas turn into real products. That applies to pupils who want to start a technical apprenticeship just as much as to students looking for practical experience and a thesis topic in electronics and drive technology, or professionals who want to take on responsibility in development, testing or manufacturing.
If you like working on new technical subjects, prefer getting involved yourself rather than just managing concepts, and value short decision paths more than big titles, there is a very good chance you will feel at home with us.
You would like to work in a company where technology is not just on paper but is developed, manufactured, tested and organised every day? Whether you are interested in electronics development, manufacturing, design, administration or an entry via apprenticeship, dual study programme or internship – if you recognise yourself in our topics, we should get to know each other.
Simply send us your documents together with a short introduction and a few lines about the area you see yourself in. We will get back to you and discuss how your start at SPAT® could look.
The easiest way is to apply by e-mail – ideally with a short cover letter, your CV and your most recent certificates as PDF attachments. Please mention whether you are interested in an apprenticeship, a dual study programme, an internship or a specific position. Alternatively, you can use our contact form; we will then get back to you with the next steps.
Yes, definitely. The best solution is if we get to know each other in advance – for example through a school internship, a holiday job or a practical project. You will see how we work and what kind of tasks await you, and we can jointly check whether it is a good fit – professionally and personally – before we decide on an apprenticeship or dual study programme.
For most applications we recommend:
a short cover letter explaining who you are and what you are applying for (apprenticeship, dual study programme, internship, specific position),
your CV,
your most recent school or university certificates,
for students: an overview of grades and, if available, information on your degree programme and previous practical experience.
If something is missing, that is not a problem – we can clarify open questions together during the process.
No. Especially for apprenticeships, dual study programmes and career starters, it is more important to us that you have a genuine interest in technology and electronics and are willing to learn. If you do not tick every box but feel that “this could be a good fit”, please apply anyway – many things can be learned step by step with us.
For a start in summer we appreciate applications during the current school year. It is best if you contact us a few months in advance so there is enough time for a meeting and, if appropriate, a preliminary internship. If you are looking at short notice, it is still worth getting in touch – sometimes opportunities arise spontaneously.
Yes, speculative applications are welcome – for example if you are generally interested in development, testing, manufacturing or administration. Whether part-time or home-office is possible depends on the specific role: in development and administration flexible models are often easier to implement; in manufacturing and testing on-site presence is more important. Just let us know what you have in mind.
